The Fifteenth (King’s) Light Dragoon
(Hussars) re-enactment group was started in the early 1990s, and has
been involved in many re-enactments, historical presentations and
parades throughout Britain and Europe during the years since then.
We strive for very high standards in both equipment and training,
and were honoured to be asked to take part in the Royal Pageant of
the Horse to celebrate the Golden Wedding anniversary of Queen
Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. The Fifteenth have also been
employed by the National Army Museum to present aspects of life of
the Cavalry in the Napoleonic Wars.
The Unit is currently around 20 men strong, and able to provide a
tented military camp as well as a troop of mounted Hussars. Since
taking part in the 1995 Waterloo event we have attended other
re-enactments in continental Europe, including amongst others
Leipzig, Grossbeeren, Boulogne, Chateau Roux and Corunna. At this
last we were also privileged to visit the site of one of the
Regiment’s unique battle honours at Sahagun, where we laid wreaths
on behalf of the Light Dragoons - the current British Army Regiment
Descended from the Fifteenth of the Napoleonic Wars.
Members of the Fifteenth are drawn from many backgrounds, a mixed
bunch who come together to produce what we hope is an exceptional
portrayal of the cream of the Light Cavalry of Wellingtons Army and
to make our hobby an entertaining experience for the watching public
- as well as making sure we have a great time ourselves!
