Formed in 1999, having served our
apprenticeship in the American Civil War Society for many years, our
core group is based in Wiltshire , but we do have members from as
far apart as Birmingham and Kent.
We portray the Royal Field Artillery circa 1806 and have two 3 lb
cannon and a mortar. The three pounder is a very undervalued piece
of artillery which was much used in the Peninsula wars as it could
be stripped down and transported on mules. We are still waiting for
the mule to enlist!
As our motto says “Ubique” (Everywhere), that is where we will go,
both in the UK and abroad, if we can make a lot of loud noises, get
very dirty and watch the Infantry do the marching!
Prospective recruits will need a “Black Powder” licence (free at
present) in order to crew the cannon on the field and a Shotgun
certificate if they want to fire a musket as well.
Women are welcome as gun crew as long as they are prepared to forgo
their lipstick! And we will be delighted to have families tag along. |
