Born from the ashes of Fox’s Marines,
raised during the Spanish War of Succession in 1702, and being
affiliated to Cornwall in 1782, the history of the 32nd (Cornwall)
Regiment of Foot is that of bravery and fortitude.
From the cold, frost bitten expedition to Copenhagen in 1807, where
the regiment helped capture the entire Dutch Navy to a value of £900
million; to the dusty, drought ridden hills of Spain and Portugal in
1808 and 1811; leading to the final deliverance of that crippling
blow to Napoleon at Quatre Bras and Waterloo in 1815.
Over the brief 8 year period of the Napoleonic Wars, the 32nd
regiment gained 9 battle honours, fought in 4 countries, with a loss
of over 1000 men, yet these die-hard Cornishmen kept pushing
forward.
Based in Cornwall and Devon, our group strives to open up the world
of re-enacting to all people- men and women, young and old, even
families. We aim to portray all aspects of life in The Regiment:
Grenadier, Light and Line companies. Yet you need not join the rank
and file, we also welcome camp followers, traders, surgeons… any one
who would like a part re-living history, we will find something for
you! We also welcome people interested in researching and
re-creating, our sew circle creates top-notch reproductions of the
uniforms and equipment of the period.
So if you feel you are ready to join a friendly, easy-going and
flexible, yet determined re-enactment group with plenty of social
and historical gathering around the South West…Take the King’s
Shilling and sign up for the 32nd! (Pasties not included)
