Royal Artillery was first formed in 1716
and was based at Woolwich. The ‘Chatham and Gillingham Volunteer
Artillery’ was formed in 1799 and was based at Fort Amherst and ran
to 1815, before being disbanded. The unit was reformed in 1984 to
re-enact the ‘Royal Foot Artillery’.
We are based at Fort Amherst, Chatham, Kent and meet throughout the
year. During the season we carry out gun drill and maintenance on
our gun collection. We also provide our members with a full 18th
century living history experience, not only at Fort Amherst, but at
various locations at home and abroad.
