Although we do not have
many ‘pure’ wargamers, we currently have 165 members who list wargaming
as a secondary interest to re-enactment or research. Each year the
Wargame Section Demo Team attend a number of Wargame Shows. All
association members are welcome to join us even if they have never
wargamed before.
Details of the rules we currently use are given in the link RULES. We
are keen to expand the section with reviews of Napoleonic rules our
members enjoy using. We also give links to a number of website from
which free rules can be downloaded.
At NA Re-enactment Events, association members meet at the Royal
Engineers' marquee, styling themselves as instructors at the Royal
Military Academy, Sandhurst using the new Prussian Kriegspiel game to
teach tactics to officer cadets. If you ever visit the National Army
Museum, Chelsea you will see Siborne's Waterloo Model which he commenced
in 1830 using 6mm figures !!! As 6mm were available during the early
19th Century they are great for a period game. Our aim is to ensure
everything for the game is 'in period' i.e. wooden dice, wooden
measuring sticks and brass dividers and nothing plastic in sight!
Wargamers wear the undress depot RMA kit (White or grey overall
trousers, shirt, waistcoat and black shoes). It makes our unit the
cheapest to join in the NA and gives new members a chance to see what
the NA is all about before committing to a regiment.
We are always looking out for new manufacturers we can sign up to
provide discounts to NA members. Several are already listed in the
handbook but, if there are any suppliers you regularly deal with, please
ask them if they would consider offering a discount to members of the NA
and forward details to the Wargames Officer, who will be pleased to act
as the contact point to confirm NA membership for discounts. Finally, we
are in the process of publishing a directory of wargames members to make
it easier for members to get together for games, as well as giving
details of clubs who support our period.
If you have never tried wargaming but fancy giving it a go, please drop
the Wargames Officer a line and we will try to put you in touch with
someone local who can introduce you to the hobby.
